Second in our series profiling each teacher is our Monday teacher Tim of beekeeping fame. Tim loves taking the kids on field trips around Litchfield County (sometime even farther, like to the New England Air Museum last year or Mystic Seaport the year before). Two annual fall trips are to March Farm to celebrate the equinox with some apple picking and to Mt. Tom to view the beautiful foliage and practice rock climbing on the tower. March Farm, like all area farms, had a very low apple crop this year due to the late spring freeze we had. There were only two types of apples to choose from :(
Role playing of sword fights and epic territorial battles are huge hits with the children. One of the rules for engagement on this particular day was that they had to practice their writing and create their own battle code.
Of course, there were more tame activities like foraging wild ramps and pickling them back at the tent which included a lesson on beneficial bacteria.
