Spring Wildlife

Birds, amphibians, crustaceans, insects, lizards... we have it all here on our 40 acres of land at EWL. Last week was saw a black bear right down the road (sadly, no photos), and the children have been observing frogs, larvae, crayfish, and all living things in between. Here are just a few of the highlights:

A robin's nest under the tent platform

Fishing for crayfish with a baited line

Frog legs also made it on the menu. Sheppard is moving up!

Of course we consider the plants wildlife, as well, and spring is a perfect time for closer investigation

The number of eggs inside increased over a few days

The boys enjoyed a delicious male crayfish for an afternoon snack

This wood frog was a tasty meal for a common garter snake
